Mt. Gambier & Surrounds

We met up with some Emus taking a stroll through a national park we were visiting. There were a few
kangaroos around as well but we weren't close enough to get a photo.
We spent a couple days in Mt. Gambier and the main attraction is the Blue Lake you see in the photos.
It is the crater left from the youngest volcano in Australia even though it hasn't been active for over a
million years. The water in the lake turns a brilliant sapphire blue in the summer then fades to grey during the winter months. We took some photos from Hoo Hoo Lookout and thought the sign was pretty funny.
We are in Southern Australia at this time and are heading for the Barossa Valley which is a huge wine
and fruit growing area. There are tons of vineyards that stretch for miles and miles over the landscape.
It's like being in "wine heaven", so I guess we'll have to sample some of the local fare.

The Great Ocean Road - The Continuing Journey

Our continuing journey down the Great Ocean Road took us to Port Campbell and the Twelve Apostles.

Over time the Twelve Apostles have been reduced to about nine formations that rise from the sea bed.

The coastline along this stretch of highway is absolutely stunning and our photos don't really

do it justice. The rugged cliffs and the aqua blue ocean with it's crashing waves are a site to behold.

We are currently staying in Warrnambool which is a coastal town in southern Victoria about 400 kms

from Adelaide which will be our next destination.

Ocean Grove&Great Ocean Rd

We took a road trip down part of the Great Ocean Road.

As you can see it is a very winding road with amazing views of the ocean.

We were quite amused at the signs along the roadway.

We assume the tourists need reminding how to drive while here!

While staying in Ocean Grove we had a game of golf at Swan Bay.

The course was pretty dry but we had a good game and went to the pub afterwards.

Then it was back home to our camp for a barbie.

Our campsite is in a nice park right on the river and after dinner

we sit and watch the sunsets over the water.

Sorento

We spent a weekend in Sorento with friends who have a beautiful beach house there.

Sorento is a tourist village south of Melbourne and is the waterway to Melbournes Harbour

and the gateway to Tasmania. Many large passenger ships and the Tasmanian ferry sail

through here. Thought the art work in our bed room was very interesting!

Melbourne

Melbourne is one of the best cities in the world to live .Also one of the most expensive.
We visited the old Melbourne jail where the notorius bush ranger Ned Kelly was hung.
After the tour of the jail we went to the old police lock-up were Mary-anne got arrested once again for
misbehaving. (not really, but the lady sergeant thought someone needed to be arrested and processed).

Bob got locked up for bearing a striking resemblence to the death mask of  Ned Kelly.

Back in those days after a prisoner was executed they made a mask of their faces

so they could study their behaviour thinking that there must be similarities in the

make up of all criminals.

Lakes Entrance Victoria

These are photos we took at Lakes Entrance in Victoria. It is a fishing port and although we didn't do any fishing but we did have a game of lawn bowls which is the Australian national pastime.
The town also has these amazing wood carvings which are carved from tree trunks.
We are on our way to Philip Island which is the most southerly point of Australia.
